FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What ages do you offer horsemanship lessons?

Lil' Riders start at 3 years old and continue into adulthood.

Do you offer private tours for prospective students?

The Riding School has a full training schedule and cannot, therefore, provide private tours. We recommend prospective students to book a one hour private session to experience a tour and understand the horse lesson experience.

Are lessons on a strict time schedule?

Beth Boyer is generous with her time and training. Sometimes, lessons run long or late due to the amount of students she singlehandedly teaches. The average time spent at The Riding School for each learning opportunity is 2.5 to 3 hours. Please plan to organize your day around lessons. Enjoy your time at the barn.

I want to buy a horse. Can you help me pick the right one?

We are happy to give advice and tips to experienced and extensively trained students of The Riding School. For horse buying inquiries please ask Beth.

What kind of equipment do I need to get started?

All you need to get started is by wearing long pants (jeans and riding pants are safer), riding boots, and a helmet. We provide the horse riding and grooming equipment and tack. This way, we make horse riding a financially accessible activity for all ages.

What payment methods do you expect?

Cash or check are accepted payable in advance of lessons.

What Is Your Cancellation Policy?

Due to high demand for horse riding and horsemanship lessons, we do not accept lesson cancellations. However, students may reschedule within their remaining 30 day period.

We require that students and/or their parents reschedule and confirm with at least 24 hours notice.

Do I need horse experience to start training at The Riding School?

We specialize in training beginners who are curious about entering into the horse world. Our students don't need any previous horse riding or horse care experience to learn with us. We will teach you everything you need to know to be a confident, expert horse person.

What if I or my child want to spend more time at the barn?

Children love to stick around and help around the barn because or the wholesome, safe environment we create. We welcome students to stay and do basic barn chores as long as they are well behaved and respectful of the property and the horses.

I am an experienced rider. How will my previous experience be incorporated into my training at The Riding School?

We welcome horse riders with previous experience and we will evaluate experienced students on a case by case basis. Our decades of experience will allow us to determine your level and what you need to achieve your riding goals. We do have our own methodologies and expect our students to adhere to our program instructions.

Do you train horses?

At this time, we only train people to care for and ride horses.

I want to become a competitive horse rider. Do you attend horse shows and competitions with students?

The Riding School focuses on training children and adults of all experience levels. We primarily focus on teaching riders who want to ride for fun and incorporate horses into their lives. Beth Boyer does not currently attend horse shows and participate in competitions.

What if I don't own a horse?

You don't have to own a horse (now or ever) in order to become a student. We presently have eight horses in our stable that can meet the needs of all of our students. All you need is a good pair of boots and a helmet.

If you have more questions, please do not hesitate to call and leave a message. Your call will be returned as soon as possible.
